Bubba and the Sweet Pea

Bubba and the Sweet Pea is a lovely little book that tells the tale of Bubba the Sulphur-crested Cockatoo who, after all his feathers have fallen out, goes in search of Uriah the Great Eagle. Uriah has the power to grant any wish, and Bubba wants his feathers back! Along the way, Bubba meets […]

"Yesterday we counted, selected and treated all the parrots that were confiscated in Douala Airport two and a half weeks ago. With 7 people we worked from 7am to 5pm, but in the end we had done all the parrots.

There were many more birds than we had estimated! We now know that the total amount of parrots seized was 503. All of them were stuffed in 10 wooden boxes and arrived in terrible circumstances in the Limbe Wildlife Centre."

14 Wild African Grey Parrots Confiscated in Cameroon

I just received an email from Ainare at the Limbe Wildlife Centre in Cameroon who told me that just yesterday 14 wild-caught African Grey Parrots from Korup National Park were confiscated from a smuggler on his way to Nigeria. The unimpressed parrot

Like you, I “love” parrots.  I love their look, their voices, their smell, how their feathers feel against my nose, how they look silhouetted against the blue, blue sky. I love how intelligent and clever they are. I love that they fly, and I cannot. To me (and I know a lot of you reading […]

It’s a Parrot Mash-up!

Mash, parrot salad, chop: whatever you call it, it’s good for your birds! Think of mash as a mix-up of veggies, pasta, grains and beans. It will be different every time you make it, because the recipe will depend on what you have on hand, what is fresh at the grocery store, and what you […]
